“People don’t realize we’re twins”: Disease affected the brothers’ appearance differently

Adam Pearson and his brother Neil’s lives changed dramatically in early childhood when they were diagnosed with neurofibromatosis, a rare disease that affects one in every 2,300 people. Despite the challenges, both brothers overcame the disease with fortitude and determination. Adam, in particular, had a successful career in Hollywood despite living with a facial tumor caused by the disease.

Adam Pearson was born on January 6, 1985, along with his identical twin brother, Neil. Diagnosed before they were five, the trigger was a lump on Adam’s forehead that appeared after a fall. Further investigation at Great Ormond Street Hospital revealed a tumor on his neck that was threatening his airway. This discovery led to numerous operations to remove the tumors, often requiring a stay in intensive care.
