“People don’t realize we’re twins”: Disease affected the brothers’ appearance differently
Adam Pearson and his brother Neil’s lives changed dramatically in early childhood when they were diagnosed with neurofibromatosis, a rare disease that affects one in every 2,300 people. Adam Pearson was born on January 6, 1985, along with his identical twin brother, Neil. Diagnosed before they were five, the trigger was a lump on Adam’s forehead that appeared after a fall. Further investigation at Great Ormond Street Hospital revealed a tumor on his neck that was threatening his airway. This discovery led to numerous operations to remove the tumors, often requiring a stay in intensive care.
